Groundwater levels on the decline throughout much of the world, researchers find
Depletion at an accelerated rate in many parts of the world

California – Studies by University of California at Santa Barbara researchers have provided perhaps the most comprehensive analysis of groundwater levels around the world, noting that 71 per cent of about 1,700 global aquifers tested are showing an accelerated decline in groundwater levels. The data comes from three years of research, finding that the rate of groundwater depletion in some areas has significantly increased since 2000 after showing a gradual decline during the 1980s and 1990s. In about 16 per cent of the aquifers, groundwater levels had stabilized or recovered since the 1980s and 1990s. Technology Networks report | READ MORE
