Astronauts’ urine being recycled into drinkable water aboard International Space Station
NASA says it's cleaner than water available on earth
June 26, 2023 By Ground Water Canada
About 98 per cent of the water brought aboard the International Space Station by astronauts is being recycled into drinkable water.
Technical advancements are able to capture moisture from astronauts’ sweat, breath and urine to be used for drinking water.
A new distillation process extracts water from a urine brine.
NASA says astronauts working at the station aren’t actually drinking urine, but rather water that has been reclaimed, filtered and cleaned. In fact, it is said to be cleaner than water available on earth.
