Auxiliary coolant heater makes for easy cold-weather starts

June 14, 2017  By Administrator

At Groundwater Week in Las Vegas, Brian Curliss and Phil Chatlosh of Proheat in Richmond, B.C., described to us the company’s 45,000-BTU coolant heater, which may be used to preheat engines, heat vehicle interiors and prevent freezing of fluids.

The unit incorporates a J1939 bus and new operating modes aimed at saving battery power and fuel.

An integrated pump circulates heated coolant to warm the engine block, making starting easier and reducing start-up engine wear. Proheat X45 Plus features an onboard control panel that displays heater status, while an optional digital timer for the cab adds convenient timer-based starting of the heater.

The unit can also direct heat to the truck cab for driver comfort while reducing fuel costs and emissions from unnecessary engine idling.

Other new features include a next-generation PCM controller, a USB2.0 Datalink connection and a field-programmable controller.

The heating units are sold through distributors in the Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and New Brunswick.
