OGWA to host 2020 golf event to raise funds for Fleming scholarships

July 27, 2020  By Ground Water Canada

Conestogo, Ont. – The Ontario Ground Water Association will host its fourth annual golf tournament Sept. 18, 2020, to raise funds for annual scholarship awards for graduates of Fleming College’s resources drilling and blasting program.

“I am happy to announce today that the OGWA Board of Directors has unanimously confirmed their desire to once again hold the OGWA Scholarship Golf Tournament,” said executive director Craig Stainton in a news release. “The event and on course protocol will be dictated by the current COVID restrictions.

“Currently we are restricted as follows: Anyone who is in the same social bubble of 10 can share a cart, please identify that case when you register.  We will keep you updated of any changes in this part of the protocol. In any scenario physical distancing must be maintained and masks are mandatory if you go inside the building. Outdoors allows for up to 100 people physically distanced as per Phase 3 regulations.”

There will be no banquet or auction this year. Registration will include golf fees for 18 holes, a cart (for one person or two if in the same social/work bubble) and a barbecue on the patio. The format will be a staggered start. The cost is $85 plus HST per person.

The aim is to raise funds that can be held in an interest-earning account to be dispersed each year to the recipients at its annual convention, the OGWA said in a news release.

“It is important to recognize the academic achievements, year to year, of deserving students and welcome them into the ground water community,” said Paul Conrad of the association’s board of directors.

Those who can’t attend can still help support the industry’s next generation by making a donation through the association or purchasing OGWA’s new golf apparel to support the scholarship fund at ogwa.ca. Funds earmarked for the scholarship will be set aside for this purpose.

When: Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, registration opens at 10 a.m., play begins at 12 noon
Where: Conestoga Golf and Conference Centre, 400 Golf Course Rd., Conestogo, Ont., www.golfconestoga.ca
Cost: $85 plus HST per person
