Opinion: Lake Simcoe’s current trajectory will see it reach toxic salt levels in 37 years
Proposed Bradford Bypass will add to problem

Toronto – Salt content in Lake Simcoe could reach toxic levels in 37 years if its current trajectory isn’t altered, the executive director of the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition states in a Toronto Star guest column. Claire Malcolmson writes the proposed Bradford Bypass highway project will increase the amount of road salt used and will contribute to the lake’s growing salt content. “And yet, the province of Ontario is ramming the Bradford Bypass through without completing the Environmental Assessment (EA), having exempted themselves in October 2021,” Malcolmson writes.
