Scientists explore other factors to better predict mountain snow melt, runoff trends

North Americans who live near mountains traditionally source their water from melting snow packs and the subsequent runoff. It’s becoming increasingly more difficult, however, to accurately predict snow melt and runoff amounts during periods of unprecedented drought and a changing climate. Scientists from Simon Fraser University are among those who have developed an updated water supply forecasting model that accounts for other factors to improve forecasting accuracy.
