Federal government pressed to regard oilsands tailings component as toxic
Alberta First Nations concerned about toxicity in groundwater

Alberta – The federal government is being asked by two Alberta First Nations to determine if a component of oilsands tailings pond water should be regarded as toxic. The concern is centred around naphthenic acids which researchers say could adversely affect human hormone functions and which are toxic to fish. Allowable limits for the acids’ presence in groundwater or surface water are currently regarded as guidelines and not regulations. CityNews report | READ MORE
