Federal government pressed to regard oilsands tailings component as toxic

Alberta – The federal government is being asked by two Alberta First Nations to determine if a component of oilsands tailings pond water should be regarded as toxic. The concern is centred around naphthenic acids which researchers say could adversely affect human hormone functions and which are toxic to fish.
