Research finds that Mars had a low groundwater recharge rate despite having surface water
Little rainfall made its way into planet's aquifers

New studies suggest that Mars was not only once home to surface water but had a low groundwater recharge rate and that its water system was different from earth’s. The study finds that no matter how much water may have fallen onto the planet, only little of it made its way into the aquifer of Mars’ southern highlands.
