Sable Island groundwater monitoring gives insight into global groundwater loss
Decades of storms increasing salinization of N.S. island's groundwater
October 23, 2023 By Ground Water Canada

Sable Island, N.S. – Scientists at Dalhousie University are monitoring the groundwater loss on Sable Island off the coast of Nova Scotia, suggesting it could provide insights into global groundwater loss. The team is comparing data from 2019 to 2022 with that from the 1970s, noting groundwater loss is tied to decades of dune erosion, waves, storms and hurricanes. Due to storms, seawater is leaching into groundwater, increasing its salinization. Dalhousie University News report | READ MORE
