Well owners in flooded Nova Scotia communities urged to flush, disinfect wells

Water can be contaminated when homes evacuated and power is out for extended time periods

Nova Scotia – Water well owners affected by the historic flooding in the province last weekend are being urged to flush and disinfect their wells if they suspect their water was contaminated. The director of water programs for Nova Scotia’s Department of the Environment said wells can be contaminated with bacteria and chemicals during floods, especially when homes are evacuated and the power is out for a significant period of time.
