Ottawa – The chief water commissioner of the Anishinabek Nation says there is no body of water in Canada she’d drink from freely, suggesting they are filled with contaminants. Autumn Peltier’s remarks were made last month at the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) 5th Annual Water Symposium. She says her people still don’t have access to clean water and must rely on boiling it before consumption. She told the audience at the virtual event that she doesn’t want to have to wait another five to 10 years for boil-water advisories to be resolved, noting change must happen now.
