January 25, 2023 By Ground Water Canada
Corner Brook, NL – Efforts to provide clean energy to the area are having a detrimental effect on the quality of local water, according to a director with the francophone and Indigenous rural community’s local service district board. He says a local wind farm project, which required the expansion of an access road, has led to silt getting into the water supply. He claims the local water supply is being destroyed, adding the water resources division of the Department of Environment and Climate Change has warned the local service district not to use the pump on LeCointre’s Brook for fear of it seizing up from sediment.
