Tesla’s plant in Germany apt to exhaust area water supply, says local water authority

March 18, 2022  By Ground Water Canada

Berlin, Germany – The Wasserverband Strausberg-Erkner water authority has said the region’s water reserves are becoming exhausted.

The statement was made in the wake of Tesla Inc.’s securing of a water supply for its factory near Berlin. The local water authority said it comes at the expense of further development in the area, adding further commercial and industrial development cannot be achieved without additional extraction permits because of the lack of groundwater extraction.

There is sufficient water available for the first stage of the Tesla factory, but more will be required pending expansion.

The strain on the water supply is believed to be a major reason the company plans to manufacture electric vehicles months later than originally planned.
