Scrap metal recycling operation isn’t impacting quality of local groundwater: district

Cowichan Valley Regional District says testing shows no negative impact to drinking water

Cowichan Valley Regional District, B.C. – The district contends that an automotive and scrap metal recycling business operating in the area isn’t contaminating a local aquifer. Groundwater testing at the Schnitzer Steel site south of Nanaimo has found the drinking water has not been negatively impacted by the company’s operations. Local residents had become concerned about the quality of their water during a rezoning application process to allow Schnitzer Steel to continue operating at the site.
