Silica sand extraction project in Manitoba could threaten water source: opponents
Project could create conditions that compromise an important water source in the province, hearing told

Winnipeg – An environmental hearing into a silica sand project in Manitoba is being referred to as a “poster child” for how the province handles such matters, a lawyer representing opponents of the project says. Those opposing the project say extraction of the silica sand is likely to collapse the shale aquitard that protects the aquifer.
