University speaker addresses water quality disparities in Manibota First Nations communities

Manitoba – Water quality disparities in the province’s First Nations communities were addressed this week at the University of Manitoba as part of its part of its Last Drop UNAI (United Nations Academic Impact) Speaker Series. The presentation’s title was, “Microbiological quality of drinking water from First Nation communities in Manitoba and an urgent need to upgrade the water distribution system.” Ayush Kumar, an associate professor with the university’s department of microbiology, said there are no established systems used for monitoring water quality in many Indigenous communities.
