Drinking water advisory for Saskatchewan town inadvertently sent out province-wide

Water main break prompted advisory

November 30, 2023  By Ground Water Canada

Saskatchewan – A drinking water advisory meant only for the Town of Maple Creek was inadvertently sent out province-wide on Tuesday.

A water main break in the town caused depressurization of the distribution system, prompting the emergency alert, but it was sent to cell phones throughout Saskatchewan.

An official from the Saskatchewan Water Agency said the alert was meant to warn the local population to boil their water before use, but it reached citizens province-wide.

The town noted its drinking water advisory will remain in place until repairs are made and sampling declares the water quality as safe. The advisory may be in place until at least the weekend, the municipality added.
