Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que. – About 26,000 households in the city – or about half the population – have been without running water for the past 48 hours following a major water main break. For those who still have access to running water, a boil-water advisory has been issued.

Officials say water won’t available until at least the end of the day today (Nov. 30).

Free bottled water was made available in the interim to affected residents.

Repairs to the 750-millimetre pipe are deemed complicated, with special parts needed. The break occurred Monday at the intersection of two city streets.

Residents who still have running water have been asked to use it sparingly during the boil-water advisory period.
