Elevations of safe bacteria to blame for taste and smell of Calgary drinking water

Calgary – People throughout the city are complaining about the taste and smell of their tap water, but the matter is only temporary and poses no health threat, officials say. The issue has been caused by an increase in geosmin levels – a safe bacteria – in the Bow and Elbow rivers. Levels of geosmin typically begin to decrease in early to mid-October.
