Environmentalists concerned water pollution could get worse if coal mine sold
Would-be buyer said to have poor environmental record, leading to compromised drinking water

Elk Valley, B.C. – Environmentalists are concerned the water pollution levels in the Elk and Kootenay rivers could go from bad to worse if the proposed sale of Teck’s Elk Valley coal mines to Glencore goes through. The Wildsight Elk Valley conservation co- ordinator says allowing Glencore to take control of the mines could prove disastrous, noting the company’s environmental record is poor. Glencore is the former owner of Anaconda Aluminum Company in Montana where municipal and drinking water wells have been contaminated. The Nelson Daily report | READ MORE
