Kress family's basement well gave others clean water to drink when algae blooms compromised city's water source

Sudbury, Ont. – A Sudbury man recalls the story of how his parents, in the early 1960s, created a basement well in the aftermath of algae blooms that rendered nearby Ramsey Lake – at the time Sudbury’s lone water source – incapable of supplying clean drinking water to the community. The Kress family shared the clean drinking water drawn from their basement well with the community which was unable to reap water fit for consumption from the lake, even after boiling it.
