South Bruce Peninsula, Ont. – The town’s mayor, Garry Michi, has resigned “effective immediately” after having made remarks interpreted as racist towards Indigenous people. The former mayor’s remarks, questioning a First Nation community’s wishes to build a new water treatment plant, were captured on tape and inferred the community was unlikely to maintain such a facility, suggesting the expense wasn’t worth the risk.
