Southern Louisiana relies on river's fresh water for drinking supply

Baton Rouge, La. – Federal disaster assistance is being made to Louisiana to slow down the inflow of saltwater moving up the Mississippi River and threatening drinking water. Residents in the southern part of the state rely on the river for its fresh water, but hot and dry conditions have slowed the river’s flow which counteracts saltwater moving up from the Gulf of Mexico.
